White Rock Lake sits in the heart of East Dallas, but its roots are purely practical. Built in 1910 to help solve the city’s growing water shortage, the lake was created by damming White Rock Creek. By 1911, it was complete—soon becoming more than just a utility as homes began to rise around its shores.
 
In the early 1930s, the Dallas Park Board, alongside the Civilian Conservation Corps, transformed the surrounding land into a public space, shaping much of what we still enjoy today. What started as infrastructure gradually became something far more meaningful.
 
Today, White Rock Lake is the jewel of East Dallas. A wide-open, Central Park–like escape where people come to run, ride, sail, or simply slow down and take it all in.
